How do I fix a rejection for "National Drug Code must be 11 Bytes"

Question: One of our claims has rejected for "National Drug Code must be 11 Bytes". How do I fix this rejection?

Solution: This particular rejection means that the 10-digit National Drug Code (NDC) number from the medication vial is being sent on the claim, instead of the 11-digit billable NDC. To convert an NDC from 10-digits to 11-digits, please follow these steps:

  1. Open the Claim screen. Right-click over a procedure and select NDC from the menu:

  2. In the NDC window, select the Procedure Code with the NDC attached.

  3. Edit the NDC format using this guide, and assistance from clinical staff.

  4. Save changes.

  5. After saving your changes on this claim, someone will need to update the Procedure Code NDC as well for future claims. Other claims may also need to be updated.
